With nearly 50 years in business, Derek Linch Haulage grew into one of the largest independently run fleets in the South East—an achievement built on consistent service and long‑term customer trust.

Even during industry challenges, the company maintained a reputation for integrity, professionalism and strong operational standards, supported by a dedicated team and well‑maintained vehicles. Derek Linch himself has been central to the firm’s leadership and growth over the years.

Est 1977

Derek Linch Haulage, with Derek Alfred Linch listed as a long‑standing company director and Victoria Amanda Linch as secretary.

1980s–2000s – Growth and Fleet Expansion

Over several decades, Derek Linch Haulage developed a strong reputation for reliability and service quality. The company operated a fleet of around 20 trucks, maintained to high standards, with experienced and well‑trained drivers.

September 2009 – Major Operational Impact

A key customer, Silver Spring, shifted significant transport work to another logistics provider (Jigsaw), causing a major reduction in contracted work.

2010–2011 – Fuel Price Challenges

Rising fuel costs placed heavy financial pressure on the business, adding to the loss of major contracted work.

14 March 2011 – Business Closure

Derek Linch Haulage ceased trading after 34 years and entered administration. The closure affected 31 employees, including drivers, workshop staff and administrative workers.

Post‑2011 – Related Businesses Continue

Although the haulage arm closed in 2011, Derek Linch remains associated with transport‑related enterprises at Sycamore Farm, Old Romney—primarily through MOT, servicing, and local vehicle maintenance operations.
